A Mediterranean map
The name of the project..
The name of "White Map" was chosen to remember the name "White Sea" given to the Mediterranean Sea in particular by the Turks and Arabs.
Our project proposes to have a watchful eye on a white map, which only the limits Sea / Earth are marked, and the lands around the sea
are one land before the Human put borders...
Abstract
Our NGO will hold a stand on 8 and 9 August 2009 in the Mediterranean village of Bouzigues, Thau bassin (near Montpellier city, France),
during the 'general public' event of the "Fair of oysters" where 15 to 25 000 visitors are expected each year.
"Carte Blanche" is to create awareness on Mediterranean countries for children with a fun game.
The age group 8-14 years is provided. The game is to place, by a children group, on a blank map of the Mediterranean,
the names of countries, cities, historical sites and / or archaeological signs of identity such as religion,
resources (industry, crafts) of countries after a brief training on the geography and culture of these countries,
with particular emphasis on the Near East Region which is the place of many conflicts. The action will be repeated in France /
other countries of Europe. The crafted game is simple, funny, reusable, repeatable.
Objectives
Invite to know more about the South Mediterranean border: geography, peoples, cultures,
heritages, languages, religions, (the action is taking place in the North)
Raise awareness about the identities and the diversities of our cultures
Changing the a priori
Encourage the cultural/study travel
Addressing the geography and languages in a playful way
Thinking together
Main strategic domain
Education
Specific Objectives
Peace and Reconciliation
Coexistence
Target groups
Children / teens 8 to 14 years old from a wide local people.
Parents will also be sensitized through the participation of their children, so the whole family will be aware.
5,000 children are going to the "fair of oysters". 10 groups per day, each consisting of 12 to 15 children so 300 children in total.
Detailed Activity
The proposed activity is free in all its forms (as the 'fair of oysters' has no entrance fee) and without obligation.
Duration of activity approximately 15 min for each group of children (12/15). An animator gives a general/visual information
for 5 minutes to the group, which previously has chosen its name (in another Mediterranean language).
During the remaining 10 minutes, the animator offers the group a blank (magnetized base of a giant puzzle),
where only the Mediterranean sea will be drawn (in white), in the heart of the land without borders (in brown).
Children help each other, working together to put the maximum information on the blank (countries are magnetized wooden pieces of
puzzle, other information in the form of magnetized playing cards, where information is written in French and in the own language
of the country). When all information is placed, a check is made with the animator, a score is calculated and marked on a blackboard.
All children get a gift (map of the Mediterranean).
