The Beautiful Syria...
Wednesday, December 19, 2007, the French TV in the cultural emission
Weekly "Roots and Wings" for the first time from a long period on a public channel,
in a prime time, Syria was in the spotlight.
They presented us a beautiful report on the city of Aleppo, history of the city with a visit
in the citadel and the old souk, crafts and culinary art, and then, it has praised the country
: The cradle of Western civilization, talking about its historical and cultural heritage,
the birth of writing, its former Phoenician people, and so on.
The show was presented in real time from the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, which celebrated its 20 years of existence.
It seems that France wants to speak about Syria, and to present it in its true light, and I welcome that.

Hier soir, mercredi 19 décembre 2007, à la TV française, dans l'emission culturelle
hebdomadaire "Des racines et des ailes", pour la première fois depuis longtemps sur une chaîne publique
à une heure de grande écoute, la Syrie était à l'honneur.
On nous a présenté un très beau reportage sur la ville d'Alep, histoire de la ville à travers une visite
dans la citadelle et le vieux souk, artisanat et art culinaire, et ensuite, on a fait l'éloge de ce pays
berceau des civilisations occidentales, en parlant de sa richesse historique et culturelle,
de la naissance de l'écriture, de son ancien peuple phénicien, etc.
Cette émission a été diffusée en direct depuis l'Institut du Monde Arabe, à Paris qui célébrait ses 20 ans d'existance.
On dirait que la France a envie de parler de la Syrie, et de la présenter sous son vrai jour, et je m'en réjouis.

Dialogue between France and Syria
Depuis quelques jours (le 29 mai dernier), il y a un espoir de dialogue entre nos deux pays France et Syrie,
et les relations semblent reprendre car il y a eu un
entretien téléphonique entre Sarkozy et al-Assad à l'initiative de la France.
Selon l'Elysée, les deux chefs d'Etat ont souligné
"leur souhait commun de développer la relation bilatérale,
sur le plan politique, économique et culturel".
La visite du Président syrien est probable le 13 juillet prochain à Paris lors
du sommet de l’Union pour la Méditerranée. Le Président français pourrait
également se rendre à Damas prochaînement.
Over the past few days (Last May 29), there is a hope for dialogue between our two countries France and Syria,
and relations seem to restart because there was a
telephone interview between Sarkozy and al-Assad, a France's initiative.
According to the Elysee, the two Presidents spoke about
"their common desire to develop bilateral relationship,
on the political, economic and cultural development ".
The visit of Syrian President to Paris is possible on next July 13 for the
Summit of the "Union for the Mediterranean". The French President could
also visit Damascus soon.

Découverte, à Damas, d'un 1er texte cunéiforme
datant du 2ème millénaire avant JC.
La mission archéologique nationale syrienne, sous la direction du professeur Ahmed Farzat Tarqaji,
opérant dans la Ghouta de Damas, a découvert à Tell Saka, un texte cunéiforme de l'époque du Royaume de Mari,
datant de l'an 1800 avant J.C.
D'après les spécialistes, ce texte découvert est le premier et le plus ancien dans la région de Damas et du Sud syrien...
